Response to Rashi's daughter

You are right. For too many people Europe is a place of the Jewish past not the Jewish present. It's too bad because -- even in France -- there are places of vibrant Jewish living, learning, and culture. While Europe is also awash with Jewish history -- both bad and good -- it is not only that.

Right - in fact there are 2.5 times as many Jews in France as in the UK (and they make great kosher cheese there). I'm off to Budapest this weekend - another Jewishly live-n-kicking place. Moscow is awash with klezmer festivals. Turkish kids are Israeli dancing (albeit illegally...) Europe & environs is the place to be!

I am not sure I would go that far, i.e. "Europe is the place to be." I would have to disagree. There is a vast difference between being a "graveyard" and the "place to be."
