For the strong statement by the Canadian Bishops on Williamson's Holocaust denial see here.
Thanks to my friend and wonderful sleuth Harry Mazal for alerting me to this.

Dear Dr. Lipstadt,
Put your sleuth Harry Mazel on this.
The Canadian Bishops wrote:
"The lifting of the excommunication does not affect penalties for other offences."
See if someone can find the original 1986 (or was it '88) papal decree. Having read other excommunicaion decrees I know that they can be accompanied by other charges carrying other punishments.
It would be interesting to know if the SSPX is under other strictures the press has forgotten.
Hi Deborah. There was a letter by Andrew Horn in The Guardian today about Williamson:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/feb/19/richard-williamson-lefebvre
It gives a brief analysis of what precisely Williamson's motivations are, and how he and his scion Marcel Lefebvre are engaged in exploiting "religious faith for inhumane social and political policies". As Horn points out, Williamson's motives are as sinister as any other individual advancing denial. I haven't personally verified Horn's claims, but if he's correct, the Lefebvre group harboured a French war criminal (Paul Touvier) who'd organised transportation of Jews to the A.R. camps.
